Te Tipuranga

One of the special features of our school is our cultural programme. We have one combined junior and senior group, Te Tipuranga. We are very proud of our Cultural Groups and the special role that they play in our school. A highlight of the year for these children is always the Waitaha Primary Schools Cultural Festival at which they perform.  The level of commitment of the children in these groups is always strong as most practices are held during school hours.

Te Tipuranga is led by Matua Tango and Whaea Ash.  We aim to nurture the young voices of our kura by providing weekly opportunities for children to develop the following skills.

Our goals are to:

  • encourage and educate Māori language and culture through singing, haka and poi work.

  • provide an environment in which to develop confidence, self-discipline, teamwork and commitment

  • perform for the benefit of the public and to enrich our wider community

  • regularly present high quality repertoire

Weekly rehearsals

Rehearsals are on Thursdays 11.30am - 12.45pm held in the Hall.

Concerts and performances

There are many exciting opportunities that come with being part of the Te Tipuranga group. These opportunities include: The Kahukura Cultural Festival, a Noho Marae every term and the Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival (Year 3+ only).
